How to keep officers and people safe during an encounter with someone diagnosed with Autism.

Today we discuss civilian and law enforcement response to Autism.  We have Stefan Bjes who is an active law enforcement officer with two young boys with Autism. We discuss new techniques on how families and officers can respond and handle individuals with Autism, for a peaceful and safe outcome.

-parents should reach out to the local departments to discuss diagnosis and how their children respond

-parents should consider placing their children on a list advising first responder of an person with Autism resides in the home

-officers and departments should consider carrying an Autism tool box with white board, picture cards etc

-departments need to better train officers on this issue
